A Very Abnormal List for a Very Abnormal Week

What a week. How are you all hanging in there?

I’ve been struggling to keep my spirits up—Seattle has been in a bit of a lockdown and it’s hard not to use the extra time at home to obsessively read headlines or panic-shop on Amazon. I’m a little worried for myself, but a lot worried for some of the older and vulnerable people I love. It’s tough to look ahead and wonder if things will ever be “normal” again.

For me, this week has been such a lesson in how little I can really control my circumstances. But I’m realizing that I can control my focus.

And rather than focus on refreshing the New York Times homepage all weekend, what I want to focus on is loving the people and pups I care about, seeking out activities that give me joy, and cultivating in-home habits that nourish my mind and body.

So, for a very abnormal Favorite Things Friday, here are the small, joyful things that I’m choosing to focus on instead of worrying:

1) Texting the people I love to check in

2) Reading picture books with my six-month-old (Miss Lina’s Ballerinas is a favorite right now)

3) Trying out a new dog treat recipe (maybe these)

4) Coaxing a vase full of branches to turn into spring blooms

5) Looking for ways to support my favorite local small businesses that are struggling right now (and appreciating this list of Seattle-specific ideas)

6) Giving myself a DIY manicure with Olive and June’s new spring colors

7) Finishing a good book (I’m almost done with this one)

8) Making our home cheery with these beautiful candles that support pups in need.

Stay safe, everyone, and here’s hoping we’ll be back with a very normal Favorite Things Friday next week.

XOXO Heather
