If you’ve been reading The Dapple for a while, you’ve probably picked up on my dirty little secret— I love Peeps. (I feel like Oprah yelling, “I love bread!” right now.)

Sure, for most of the year I try to watch my sugar intake and stay away from processed foods. But then March rolls around and it’s ALL PEEPS ALL THE TIME.

We were absolutely a Peeps family when I was a kid (no shame!) and they were a fixture of our Easter baskets each spring. Fast forward to college, and I’m still proud to admit that I won the sophomore year Peep-eating contest. It takes years of training—right, folks? I honestly can’t remember the grand total that I ate, but I do remember waking up the next day feeling like I had the worst hangover in the world.

Anyway, now that I’ve aired all my dark secrets, I am sooo excited to share today’s fun Peep-centric dog DIY with you because this year I discovered a new reason to love Peeps—you can use them as stamps!

I had been looking for a Peep-print dog bandana for our pups for Easter and couldn’t find one with colors I liked, so I had the crazy idea to DIY one. And guess what? It worked!

DIY Peep Print Easter Dog Bandana

This DIY is honestly so easy once you know what you’re doing. You really just need a couple Peeps (plus a few more to munch on if you’re me), some pastel acrylic paint, a sharpie, a paintbrush, and a blank cotton bandana.

You’ll notice from the pics that I like to add a ribbon to our dogs’ bandanas—probably because I’m weirdly bad at knots. *shrug emoji* Anyway, you can do this by hot-gluing a ribbon into the diagonal fold of your bandana. I think it looks cute, but you could just do a normal fold, too.

YOU’LL NEED:

  • A plain white cotton bandana

  • 2-4 Bunny Peeps (yellow works best)

  • A black sharpie marker

  • Pastel acrylic paint

  • Paintbrush

  • Optional: hot glue and pastel ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Unfold your plain white bandana and lay it flat on a protected surface. (Some paint may seep through.) If your bandana has a lot of wrinkles, you’re going to want to do a quick pass with the iron before beginning stamping, so get that out of the way now if you need to.

  2. Pour 1-2 tablespoons pastel acrylic paint onto a disposable plastic lid or plate (I like to use old yogurt lids) and spread it around.

  3. Remove Peeps from their wrapper and brush off any excess sugar. Then slice the Peep in half lengthwise—essentially, this gives you two Peep stamps from one Peep.

  4. Dip the exposed marshmallow side of the Peep into the acrylic paint. You can use a paintbrush to distribute the paint. Do a practice stamp on a piece of paper or napkin before you add it to the bandana to make sure your stamp looks good.

  5. Stamp roughly a quarter of the bandana with each color of the paint, switching to a new Peep stamp for each color.

  6. It can be tricky to get your edges perfectly even with the Peeps, so go back over the edges with a paint brush to fill in any uneven prints.

  7. Allow to dry for 4-6 hours and then add three sharpie dots to each Peep as its face.

And that’s it! Easy-peepsy, right? Happy Easter, everyone! Hope you have a great one.
